Stools Add Extra Seating And Flair To Your Kitchen
Designers today know that families are on the go and do a lot more casual dining. A lot of today's kitchens feature some type of counter area or a kitchen island that allows space for grabbing a quick bite to eat. Adding this type of counter space and kitchen counter stools is a great way to give your kitchen more flexibility and seating.
Are you making the most of all the space that you have? It's very convenient having kitchen counter stools to pull out and use whenever you need them. My husband and I have a counter seating area. Since it's just the two of us it rarely gets used. However, we do a lot of entertaining and have found that the four extra kitchen counter stools we have always get used by friends and family. Sometimes the stools are taken into the family room to be used, other times we'll find people sitting around the kitchen counter are eating and talking.
When my husband I chose our kitchen counter stools we chose stools that would enhance the overall design theme of our kitchen. We have a Tuscan style kitchen. I have several wrought iron accessories throughout the kitchen such as a spice rack and a wine rack and a cookbook stand. I have a wrought iron chandelier over the dining room table. I wanted to have wrought iron stools in the kitchen to continue the theme.
It was easy to do an online search and find dozens of different kitchen counter stools to choose from. Not only did I want wrought iron kitchen stools I also wanted comfortable padded stools. I did not want a backless stool. I wanted the stools to have backs on them. I also did not want stools with arms.
When I did my online search I was very surprised to find I could have custom kitchen counter stools made. I could choose either wood or metal, and what color metal or wood I wanted. I also had a variety of fabrics to choose from. I checked out the site zipstools. They had a wide range of backed stools and swivel stools available.
As I continued my search I found an unbelievable array of styles. I saw wrought iron kitchen counter stools for a pool room that had an "8" ball on the back, one that had a Bass fish on the back, one that had a sun on the back and one that had a seashell on the back. Some of these decorative wrought iron stools had chairs that matched.
I also went onto my favorite design site, Ballard Designs to take a look at their selection of stools. They almost made me change my mind. They have such a lovely selection of wood stools. They have leather stools, kitchen stools, and upholstered stools. My favorite stool was the Avignon bar stool which is birch with a rush cane seat in a distressed walnut finish. Although this Avignon stool is meant to be used in a French Provincial kitchen I thought it would go well in mine. Their upholstered stools looked very comfortable.
I learned that I would need to leave between 10" and 13" of space between the seat and the bottom of the counter to allow for comfortable seating. Also, you don't want the stools you choose to be so heavy they're cumbersome to move, especially if you have young children. Also make sure that the kitchen counter stools you choose have protective tips on the legs so they won't scratch you kitchen flooring.
