Kitchen Stove Styles And Features

Is it a kitchen stove? It is a kitchen range? What do manufacturers and designers call the combination oven and cook top that our mothers called kitchen stoves? If you're in the market for a new kitchen stove do you know exactly what you want? Some cooks swear by cooking with gas and don't want an electric cook top. Some don't have availability of gas in their homes and must use electric. If you're lucky enough to have availability of both gas and electric you can buy one of the new ranges called a dual-fuel range. The cook top is gas and the oven is electric. A gas cook top affords very precise cooking and electric provides very even oven temperatures when baking.

Kitchen stoves that our mother's used to use are now called kitchen ranges. There are three different styles available. These styles are slide-in ranges, drop-in ranges and freestanding ranges. As the names imply a drop-in range is dropped down in between cabinets onto a frame. The range has no bottom drawer. The base is kitchen cabinetry. The range would look as it is built in and is used more in modern sleek kitchens. Slide-in kitchen stoves do not have finished sides as they are meant to be set up between two cabinets. A freestanding kitchen stove is one that most of us are familiar with.

What types of features are you looking for in kitchen stoves? There are several features available now in most stoves. You can find combination convection/regular ovens. A convection oven cooks using a fan to circulate hot air. It cooks food faster then a conventional oven. A lot of stoves also have warming drawers. Double ovens are also a convenience for some cooks as it allows them to have the ovens at two different temperatures. Some ovens have automatic oven turn offs. Another nice feature is a simmering burner.

Induction cook tops are one of the latest features. Induction cooking surfaces work through high-frequency electromagnetics. The electromagnetic field generates heat that is picked up by the cooking vessel and transferred to the food in it. Nothing outside the cooking pot gets hot. As soon as the hot pot or pan is removed from the induction cook top there is no heat. This is very unlike glass cook tops that can remain hot for up to ten minutes after a pot is removed and the burner is turned off.

You're going to find the usual brands Maytag, Frigidaire, Sharp, KitchenAid, GE, Amana. Then there are the higher end kitchen stoves offered from Jenn-Air, and Miele, Thermador, GE Cafe and GE Monogram. Viking is another popular brand of kitchen stoves. They offer high-end electric, gas, induction and dual fuel ranges. Most homeowners who are only replacing a kitchen stove tend to choose the same brand as the other kitchen appliances in the kitchen.

Several of the kitchen stoves that ranked very high by some consumer reviewers are the GE Profile JGBP85WELWW. It's a gas range that has an automatic oven shut off, warming drawer, two high power burners and a simmer burner. The Hotpoint electric coil range RB757WHWW. Is a basic electric range with a bottom storage drawer, self cleaning oven, window and interior light.
